A, largely attended conference of delegates from local bodies and Chambers of Commerce in the Wellington district opened to-day. Tlic objects are to discuss the Kimutaka- deviation, the, best means of improving access between' Wellington city and the couhtry districts by rail and road, and the opening up for closer settlement of East Coast lands. A motion was carried to the effect that the, Kimutaka deviation was an absolute and urgent necessity.
