LAND SETTLEMENT.
GOVERNMENT'S OPERATIONS. ANOTHER LAND BILL NEXT SESSION. (Per United T ‘re s Association.) AA ELLINGTON, March 6. Interviewed on the subject of land settlement to-day. Air Massey said that the number of selectors of land for the year ending 31st December was 2,143, and the area selected 677.910 acres. During the financial year un to the end of last month, the Government had purchased 140,692 acres at a cost of £559.606 under the Land Settlement and Finance Act. During the present financial year it had .settled 4.082 acres at a cost of £58.729, and had placed thereon 28 settlers. Mr Massey added that a Land Bill would be brought down nest session. He could not say the lines on which it would go, except that it would bo designed to facilitate putting people on the land.
