AMERICANS AT MASTERTON. PARKER ANITpOWER MAKE -RECORDS. (Per Cnilcd Press Association.) z MASTERTON, March 5. The American -athletes appeared hero to-day and ciftnpeted at the Wairarapa Amateur Athletic Club’s meeting. Tno attendance was large, the track was in perfect order and the weather conditions ideal. In the 440 yards Parker (U.S.A.) broke the Australasian record time of 40 1-5. ’the American made short work of the opposition, winning easily by ten yards, A feature of the meeting" was Power’s (U.S.A.) mile run, the distance being - i overed in 4.18 2-5, a fresh Australasian record. Both Parker and Power had a great reception on returning to the pavilion. Templeton was too heavily handicapped, but showed to great advantage in both the 120 hurdles and the polo vaulting. In the former he was just beaten though giving away a big, start. In the polo vault lie cleared lift 1 in and just failed to beat his own record of„llft 6in-. The 1914 picnic of the furnishing and r ß; ,not-makin«r trade* of Wnneranui was held yesterday at Hipango Park. Fav. cured by splendid weather conditions, it resulted in a o-reat success. About 150 persons embarked on the river steamer Manuwai at. 9.30 a.m., and the reserve was reached at 11.30. when luncheon, supplied by the committee, was partaken of bv all present under the shady trees which abound in the reserve.
