STRENUOUS OPPOSITION. Press Association.—Telegraph.—Copyright LONDON, June 23. The leading South American shipping companies are uniting to fight the American Beef Trust. The scheme includes the building of a fleet suitable for the Panama qpnals each 450 feet in length, and unusually narrow beam. They will be utilised to collect carcases at the various centies, and the meat wili be shipped from Colon in a fleet extensive enough to give daily sailings to Britain. Harlands, the Eoyal Mail, .the No’.ton Line, and the Pacific Steam Navigation Companies are interested.
