MANGAWHERO ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting of tho Mangawhero Road Board was held yesterday (Wednesday), Present—Messrs V V. Ciaig, J. Farley,' H. Hamilton, P. A. O’Neill, Allan Robinson, and 11. M. Speed.

ANNUAL ELECTION. —The clerk read the Returning Officer’s notification declaring Messrs Craig, Hamilton, O’Neill, Connor, Eobimon,. Farley, and Speed to bo duly elected members of the Hoard. CHAIRMAN.—Mr H. M. Speed was duly elected chairman for the ensuing 12 months. RETIRING MEMBERS.-—A ballot was taken to decide the three members to retire in May, 1914, and resulted in the following names being drawn:—Messrs Connor, Hamilton, and Farley.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE—Leave of absence was granted to Mr Connor for this meeting.

ACCOUNTS.—Accounts amounting to £331 13s 7d were passed for payment.

BANK AUTHORITY.—It was*-resolved that any two mombers of the Board, together with the dork, bo authorised to sign cheques on the Board's bank account.

KAIWHAIKE QUARRIES. —-Letters were road from tlio secretary of tlic Harbour Board and from Mr Rutherford re. -(< ato of road past the quarries. Resolved that the matter stand over, the foreman to inspect and report on- condition • of track at next meeting. A USTRA LI AN HARDWOOD—Letter from Under-Secretary of the Public Works Department re supplies of hardwood.— Resolved that a reply be sent that when hardwood timber is required the Board will be glad to purchase same from the Government, but at present, while fully sympathising with the idea, it is unable to say what fulure requirements will be. as there are no works contemplated. GRANT.—f.cfter from Under-Secretary of the Public Works Department, offering grant of X7D ;<d for expenditure on Baupin Road.—Resolved that the matter be left in the bands of Messrs Robinson and O’Neill, to report at next meeting. _ ASSESSMENT COURT.—Letter from Valuer-General re anpointing representative for Assessment Court.—Resolved that Mr A. Burnet bo appointed to act for the Board. BANK ACCOUNT.—The bank V)ass-lK>o' was laid on the table, showing a credit balance of JEI2RO 9s od. SPECIAL I/)AN—At the conclusion of the ordinary meeting, a special meeting was held, when it was resolved to make a special rate of 1 7-8 d in the £, to provide for the interest and sinking fund on a loan of jE.'oO to bo raised for the purpose of building two bridges for Messrs Anderson and Barrett's properties.
