SUGGESTED AMALGAMATION.

(Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, April 17

The question of the amalgamation of the ; .vo Federations of Labour at present existing in .the Dominion —the New Zealand Federation of Labour (registered), commonly referred to as the Miners’ Federation, and the Now Zealand Trades and Labour Council’s Federation of Labour—was discussed at some length by the Trades and Labour Confcrcmc to-day. Mr R. Breen (Otago) moved: ‘That tho* iL'oufeiVnce be requested to make a further effort to bring about art amalgamation of the two Federations of Labour.”

After a long discussion, the opinion of speakers lieiug in favour of the proposal, the motion was agreed to unanimously. It was decided to telegraph to the secretary of the Miners’ Federation and ask that a conference should be held aa early as possible for the purpose of bringing about amalgamation. Mr McLaren gave notice to move: “That a committee be set up to go into the matter and report on the basis of amalgamation/'
