Borough Matters.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—lt was with pleasure I read your sub-leader “Borough Matters,” also’ the borough engineer’s report to the Council. I earnestly hope, in the interest of the town and incidentally niy own, that the City Fathers will give Mr Mansfield carte blanche in the matter of street forming. There is no doubt the Wanganui borough needs a lot of shaking up in many of its undertakings, but principally iii its street maintenance. I went to live in Masterton about five years ago, and at that time it was absolutely the dirtiest, muddiest town ever I x had the misfortune to be in. Mr Mansfield took charge about a year later, and began at once to grapple with the trouble. At the end of 12 months he had succeeded in transforming the bog-holes into som(? of the finest streets in the Do. minion.. I have travelled many parts of the world, but honestly I have never seen a better kept street than Queen Street, Masterton. It is a credit to the town, and the man who was responsible for its construction was Mr Mansfield.—l am. P. EDWAHD.
