Mr Russell French, general manager of the bank of New South Wales, in his presidential address to the Bankers’ Institute, said that in no period of Australian history had the money market been steadier than during the past fifteen years as a result of closer settlement. The banks’ advances had increased, but the people amongst whom the money had spread had increased in a much greater ratio. He anticipated that there would be no difficulties in connection with the Federal note issue.
