OKEHU RESERVOIR INSPECTION.

BOROUGH COUNCIL’S ANNUAL VISIT. The annual official visit of the "Wanganui Borough Council to the. Okehu reservoir was made on Saturday- last. A party of nineteen, including the Councillors, the borough officials, and leading citizens, lei t the Borough Chambers about 7.30 aju.. returning after a delightful day, about 7 p.m. The more energetic members of the party followed the pipe-track for the last four miles of the journey out, and found . everything'-im'* excellent order. The ver- , dure ''was" wohderfully fresh, and green, and the scenery along the -pipe track was magnificent, find 1 a delight even to those i who' had 1 hjade the walk many times. The state of the reservoir left nothing to be desired, and Caretaker Kmidson was congratulated on the thoroughness of ' his work. 'The water whs about, four feet below the top of the dam, 'and in view of the Icrigtk of the present drought this was considered eminently satisfactory. The Okehu district was, however, treated to a shower on Friday night, which- raised the water in the dam about 2ft. The party. werq' shown over the reservoir in thecaretaker’s boat, and.'wore enabled to obtain .a very comprehensive idea of the formation.. . A start was made for home about. 3 p.m., and according to time-honoured custom, Mr Menli’s hospitable invitation was accepted, and a call was made at his residence for refreshment. 'f’own was reached about 7 p.m., and the party-dispersed; with the expressed wish that they would again meet to make the trip next vear. ,
