THE DOMINION'S ARMY.
PROGRESS OF THE SCHEME. A Busy Time Ahead. The announcement that the proclamation in regard to compulsory military training will bo issued on April 3 i s an indication of the progress made in the universal training scheme since the advent of General Godley. There is an orderliness about military 1 proceedings now that betokens a good organisation, and those in authority to speak, say that in 12 months from the issue of the proclamation the Dominion will have a large and efficient force. Th© Tauherenikau camp was the first, step in the new scheme, and the thoroughness with' 1 which the new area officers and instructors were trained and disciplined augurs well for the success of the movement. A feature of the campwps the number of rejections for inefficiency, thus indicating that the raising of the Dominion’s citizen army will be in i-cod hands. In addition to the, area ..officers and instructors, the officers commanding districts were “tried out” before the General, who now has the “measure” of every officer in the Dominion. From now out there are busy times ahead for military authorities. The first duty of the area officers and jjon-commis-aioned instructors on being posted ,to.their groups is to commence the recruiting-and registration. necessary to bring the territorial force up to its new establishment. Young men who were over 18 and under 21 years ofe.age on November 2, 1910, may, if- passed as physically fit, at once and without waiting for selection, volunteer to join the territorial unit of the. branch with which they wish to serve. The registration is to be completed by June 30.
