BLOCKS FOR SETTLEMENT. (Per United Press Association). DANNEVIRKE, Match 25. The Native Minister yesterday met the Maori owners of the Mangatoro Block to confer with them, with a view to the Government purchasing the block for close settlement. In the evening the Minister received two deputations, one from the Chamber of Commerce asking the Government to reserve Tiratu Tahbraiti and Mangatoro Blocks for settlement, and the other from the A. and P. Association asking forah extension of the tenure of the domain. In both cases the Minister indicated that the Government would take the necessary steps, it being understood that the rights of the natives would have to he considered, and their consent to the sale obtained in the case of the blocks. The Hon. Mr Carroll left for Wellington to-day.
