HIPANGO PARK.

BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY’S EXCURSION. As our readers are probably aware the Beautifying Society had selected the 23rd inst. as tho date for its excursion to Ilipango Park, in aid of the Society’s funds. All that was required for a successful outing was propitious weather, and a sufficiency of water in the river. But it was not to be, and, owing to the shallowness of the water, it has now been found necessary to postpone the excursion until April 6. In consequence, a conference to meet tho altered circumstances became necessary. This took place in the Borough Council Chambers last evening, when th© programme came up for considerable discussion. Tickets were portioned out among those present, and, judging by the enthusiasm displayed, the sales should constitute something bordering on a record. Mr E. H. Short was appointed to make the necessary arrangements for the musical portion of the programme, Messrs Copeland and Kcruohan arc in charge of the sports, while Mr C. Goldsbuiy is superintending the ticket-selling operations. Everything appears to be in order for what should prove one of the most successful excursions yet held in Wanganui. Tlie Borough Council has decided to expend £3O on tho improvement of tho ground, while tho Beautifying Society’s eontribuptjou of a similar amount will be added to this. Mr A. Hatriek has promised to give the use of the Mauuwai (which accommodates 400 passengers) gratis, and should she prove inadequate,, he is willing' to put on additional boats, also free of cost. Hot water will be provided free on the ground, while picnicers will be able to obtain afternoon tea on board for sixpence. Arrangements are well in hand to provide a number of further attractions.
