HON. R. McKENZIE.

(Per United Press Association.) GISBORNE, March 22. The Hon. R. McKenzie was entertained hero this evening. He expressed himself as "reatlv pleased with the potentialities of the district he had visited, and emphasised the necessity for closer settlement instead of the large areas at present held. Referring to railways, the Minister said, in a few months there would lie a start at the Gisborne end and at the Napier end with the Gisborne-Napicr Railway, and it would he one of the most important linos in the Dominion. He said the East Coast Mam Trunk would get to Motu inside of 18 months, and when connected up would eventually be one of tlie most in the Dominion, tapping vast areas of rich country. The railway from Tauranga would probably reach Opotiki. The Minister leaves early in the morning for Napier overland, via Wairoa, to follow the 1-ontc of the Napicr-Gishorne line
