THE HAIRPIN HUNT.
NEW YORK MONEY KING'S NEW PASTIME.
NEW YORK, March 19
This city has discovered a new craze to take the place of “freak” dinners, which have become too common.
Last night a hilarious crowd followed two well-known millionaires, one of whom is a notable character in United States society, and carried the first mails to Klondykc.
Overcome with ennui, one conceived the novel idea of prospecting the city sidewalks for hairpins, and, starting from the Hotel Waldorf Astoria, he wandered around the principal blocks accompanied by the other millionaire. The searcher’s eyes were glued to the sidewalk, but he was lucky enough to find a hairpin on each of the nine blocks, and won £9OO, £IOO for each.
