MERCHANT SERVICE GUILD.

>Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, April 28. Some 25 members of the New Zealand section of the Merchant Service Guild of Australasia attended the annual meeting which was held in Wellington- to-day. The president of the Guild, Mr Orton Stevens, was in the chair.

In the report, which was adopted, it was stated that 74 new members had joined the association during the year, thus bringing the membership up to a total of 356, and this number included practically all the certificated masters and officers in New Zealand waters. The year had also been very successful in other respects, the finances were in a flourishing state, and .£520 had been added to the reserve fund, an achievement greatly in advance of that of any previous year in the Guild’s history. Congratulatory reference was made to the formation of the Auckland branch of the Guild during the year. The chairman remarked that the position as disclosed was most satisfactory and pleasing to 'all concerned in the Guild. The whole of last year’s officers were re-elected, as follow^:—President, Mr Orton Stevens; vice-president, Captain J. A. Hayward; secretary and treasurer, Captain Watson; trustees, Messrs S. A. Atkinson and E. Dixon; auditors, Messrs 0. S. Watkins and G. B. Hull. A committee was set up consisting of 40 members of the Guild.
