BRISBANE, April 28. The inquiry into the wreck of tie schooner Malekula has opened. The cap tain attributed the stranding to the chronometer being inaccurate, and to the bad steering of the native crew.
The Marine Board decided to place on record the splendid behaviour of the captain in bringing ’the Alalekida’s boat across from Bampton Island.
The auxiliary schooner Malektua was wrecked on the Hampton Reef, on January 9th. The ship’s boat, in charge of Captain McPhail, and containing Messrs Snapland and Dobson, officers of the illfated vessel .jailed from the scene of the wreck to &dnda Point. Queensland, a distance o{oOu miles reaching the latter place on The Maleknla had been given up for lost with all hand* and the tidings of the safety of the crew were naturally received with much t*ratification in Sydney. °
