CASE AGAINST DR. HYDE
Startling Incident in Court

Gentry, an apothecary. proved that Colonel Swope was in the habit of taking drugs containing strychnine. Cross-examined regarding one such mixture. Gentry created a sensation by uncorking and swallowing a portion. Counsel lor the defence protested against the exhibition. Gentry replied that be swallowed the mixture because lie suffered from palpitation.
Dr. ITvdc is being charged with the murder of Colonel Swope and eight other members of file Swope family. Colonel Swope was a millionaire philanthropist, of Kansas City who died suddenly. Later on, owing to certain rumours. Dr. Dennett Clarke Hyde sued the executor at Independence, Missouri, for slanderously accusing him of poisoning Swope, and also Swope’s nephew, who likewise died suddenly. The case took a sensational turn recently ivhcn it was announced that the chemical analysis showed (that the colonel died from the effects of strychnine. In filing the case Hyde further stated that the defendant accused him of inoculating members of the Swope family with germs of typhoid, which several contracted. Hyde, wlio married the colonel’s niece, attended the colonel and other members of the family.
