ABDUL HAMID’S CONDITION.

In answer to the reports that the exSultan Abdul Hamid is afflicted with violent mania, and that his condition is critcal, the following intimation is issued from a competent Turkish source:—“Abdul Hamid is suffering from the neurasthenia which already afflicted him during his reign, but the symptoms have appeared with increased violence and are. accompanied bv deep depression in his enforced exile. The ex-Sultan refuses all medical aid, and this renders treatment verv difficult. It is possible that the increase of his malady may result in a weakening- of the intellect of the former Sultan; indeed,, symptoms indicative of this are not ’//anting. The-Turkish Government-would oppose no difficulty should Abdul Hamid wish, to consult a European specialist, but helms expressed no such desire. The ex-Sul-ton is watched most carefully, in accordance with - orders, so that no opportunity of committing suicide will occur. The patient, indeed, shows no tendency towards excess, and as he is invariably surrounded by officers, all possibility of taking his own life is obviated.”
