■V; Lady Dickson-Poyndef, wif© of the Governor designate of New' Zealand, is said to be singularly artistic, and belongs to oyhatis known,as the cultured set in British society. She formerly belonged to! the curious sect known as “The Souls.” , Mr H. H. Jacobson, one of the best known country journalists in Canterbury, died yesterday at the agp of 67.. Hecame to New Zealand in 1859. Thirty ago. he was interested .in the , Ashburton Mail and the Otald Mail. Subsequently ho settled in Akaroa, whore he was mstriH mental in saving much of the Maori his-, tor- and early European 'stories of; Banks Peninsula. He published one J collection of these stories, and the . manuscript of the second volume ■ was destroyed by lire when ready ,£or press. . .....
