WAVERLEY NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)-, While Messrs Bridge. and Coghill were driving home-, along the Mill Road, a few. evenings ago, they met, wth a rather unfortunate accident. The wheel of the trap was caught in a large hole in the road, and both occupants were thrown out. Mr Bridge received a rather severe shaking, while Mr Coghill escaped with slight injuries to his arm and hand. 'On Thursday evening, after the Town Board meeting, a public meeting was held to decide as to having a poll in connect io:’ : with the erection of. .municipal, buildings. A large -number of citizens were presentaiid after several questions had, been, asked , and answered, it was decided that-a .pollbe held in about three, weeks’, time. A meeting.of ladies who have the arrangehients for, the forthcoming hall in aid of ; the Town Hall funds in hand, was held 1 . yesterday afternoon. A large number of ladies wqs present, Mrs W. Brewer being fffthe .chair. The . date of, the hall was. fixed for May 6, and a number of tickets fyfere taken for sale. The ladies will can-, vass the township for donations towards 'the supper. ' . - On : Friday night “Hans the Boatman” was played here, and although the audience was not large, it was most appreciative. The acting throughout was splendid, and considering that all the performers .were amateurs, the performance, was most creditable. If we , are fortunate enough to receive another visit from the Wanganui amateurs, I am quite sure there will be a much larger audience. .After the performance an enjoyable little dance was held, dancing being kept up until the early jiqurs of, the. morning. On the same, evening the Moumahaki .people held a most successful dance in aid of their hall funds. It was a great pity that these two events clashed. .
