Mr Henderson, speaking at Sheffield, indignantly denied any part in the Liberals' general election, lie only expected an election in 1911, and the Labour party was simply acting from the standpoint of organisation and money. It would be unable in some cases to fight successfully, therefore some few candidates would be withdrawn. Thera was no proposal from the other side for a deal. Mr J. A. Pease's (Secretary to the Treasury) suggestion implied the surrender or the withdrawal of nearly all the new candidates. Needless to say, that would not be done. If the Liberals were anxious to avoid hopeless contests they should follow the Labour Party's example.
