Engineer's Report.

The engineer reported for the previous month ac follows: —

Quarry. — The output for the month has been 1756 tons, a decrease of 224 tons below last month, owing to the punts being engaged taking hardwood from the Alexa. <uid a slight mishap to one of the punts through one of the slings breaking and dropping a stone on to the punt. All the plant and quarry are m good workingorder.

Soupth Mole.— The staging has been ex. tended a further length of 200 ft. making lOOOft. to date. Tli.e sand spit continues -to makr> ub behind the work. 746 tons of rubble wer-j deposited. North Mole. —960 tons of rubble were deposited. The wall is now well up above

low water level for its entire length of 980 ft.

Wanganui Wharf — The original contract; for 500 ft. i 3 now completed, and the further extension of 125 ft. is well on towara completion. It is expected that the whoU* work will be finished in two weeks fron date

Castlecliff Wharf. — There only remains the finishing off of a portion of the superstructure, all piling and sheeting having been completed. The work will be- finished in about two weeks from date.

Dredging — During the month the dredge has compieted the berthage l.iOtt . w vie along the 900 ft. of the old wharf, .uid 13 now engaged finishing along the new wharf, which should be finished, according to the dredgema&ter's «stimate in about six weeks. The dredge removed 15,980 cube yards of spoil for the month, at a cost of 4.* 2d per cubic yard.

The Channel. — The channel was sounded from the green light to the bar to-day (December 1), and was found to be practically the same as reported last month, with the exception that there is an improvement in depth of six inches in the channel between the internal wall and the south mole jetty. The bar was carefully sounded in company with the harbourmaster, and gave a dspth equal to 13ft. 6ins.. reduced to standard gauge low water spring tides.
