The meeting is the outcome of a gathering of commercial and professional men held yesterday. The proceedings then were of a private nature, but it is reported that there was a unanimous opinion expressed tliat the postponement of the business of the country until September or October next, in order to allow the Prime Minister to go to London, was altogether an undesirable thing to do. It was molv? to put the matter before the citizens. lifncc tlie meeting.

Mr W. F. Maseey, when approached ).y th, promoters, favoured the idea of liie mooting.

Tho meeting yesterday agreed that the pr.<cpedingß should be of the nature of ti cit.':.tue> proteat, and not associated with the Oi position party as such. Th.,i.v is a probability, however, of Mr Massey being one of the speakers.
