TRAGIC SUICIDE AT SEA.
FABEWELL SPEECH FROM TOPMAST.
Few men have chosen to die under such tragic circun.stancea as an able-bodied seaman employed on the Italian barque Cavour, which arrived in Sydney on Tuesday last in ballast from Callao. One morning when the vessel was less than a month out on her voyage he eudto the main topmast. From a height of nearly 100 ft he waved his arms and de- £ ver ? d a short address to his comrades on tne deck beneath 'as one about to die." As he concluded, he took a headlong dive, and with terrific force landed on the aeck. Death was instantaneous and every bone in. his body was broken. On the following day the corpse was committed to the deep.
