GENERAL LABOURERS' AWARD
Mr Mackay was surprised that Mr Muir had r riot a knowledge of the effect' of the general labourers' award pn I>he borough workmen. He claimed that Mr Muir was present at the Council meeting when the recommendation of the Works Committee, that the award be adopted, was affirmed. Mr Mackay stated that he had fought against the workmen's wages being reduced to the award rates when the award was under consideration in committee, but had been out-voted. Mr Muir, as was usual with such recommendations, must have got a copy of the committee's report on the matter before the Council met, and his statement that he was ignorant of the position showed his lack of interest in the Council's proceedings.
