DISTRACTED HUSBAND.

AUSTRALIAN ITEMS.

An attempted suicide under unusually pathetic circumstances, occurred at Dubbo last week. The wife of Joseph Bayliss, an elderly man, took suddenly ill and died next morning in her husband's arms. In a paroxyism of grief, Bayliss seized a razor, and, going in front of the lookingglass, drew it across his throat, covering the windpipe and several arteries. The wounds were stitched up, and Bayliss was removed to a private hospital, muttering "My poor wife is dead; let me dit too."
