Nothing definite has yet been settled as to where the forthcoming race will be rowdd, but the probabilities are that it will ;take place at Akaroa. Arnst has had an qffer of £loQ over and above what his share of the "gate" may be to row there, and to the latest communication received from, him on the subject he is inclrnod to accept that offer. A number of local enthusiasts have interested themselves in endeavouring to have the race decided here for- the sake of the town, and they yesterday telegraphed to Arnst guarantieeing a very substantial sum as his share of the "gate." The champion replied declining the offer, and stipulating for a higher sum. ' Subsequently a better offer was made to Arnst, but so. far no reply has been received. It is understood tbat| if the champion -refuses the offer now submitted to him nq further efforts will be made to induce hi mto row here, and the 'race will, therefore, be fixed to take place at Akaroa in all probability. There can ,b 6 little doiibt but that a bigger gate wou|d be got here than at Akaroa, ■ but Arnst* supporters are anxious that he should row in the South, and Wanganui's chance of getting the race do not appear very rosy, though it is admitted that the course ' here is superior to any other in the 'Dominion.
