School Holidays and the Second Ballot

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, — A correspondent in your last evening's issue asks about the school holiday on the 17th inst. The Liverpool Street and Gonville School buildings were required for the polling, and a majority of the committee decided to also close the other schools on that day. The question of another holiday on the following Tuesday for the three remaining schools was not raised and discussed, and therefore was not granted. I may say that I, personally, did not favour the holiday, but fell in with the wish of the majority. As to your correspondent's talk about "reporting," he can fire away if he thinks it will afford him any pleasure. — I am, etc., WM. BRUCE, Chairman Wanganui School Committee. November 26, 1908.
