Napier Notes

(Por United Press Association). NAPIER, Octoher 3. A smart shock-of earthquake was felt here at 7.40 this morniHg. Mr M. Herrold, for the past eight years manager of the Napier branch of the New Zealand Insurance Company, has received notice of promotion to the management of the company's branch at Buenos Ayres . A private telegram from Christchurch indicates that the statement which lias been published, that Sub-inspector Dwyer has been promoted to be Inspector of Police in charge of the East Coast district, is somewhat premature, Mr Dwyer not having received the slightest intimation of such promotion. Splendid rain fell during the n\<?lit, , but much more is needed. The rainfall vi September was only .90 inches, the lowest since 1898.
