A Correction

TO TH» JIDITOB.

Sir, — Under your heading "Native Land Court Sittings" I am reported to have said that "the Courts were held so seldom that the Maoris came en bloc into town, whereas it' more frequent sittings were held, it would be only necessary ior those more immediately concerned to come into town. Now, sir, 1 said quite the opposite, viz., that the natives were compelled to attend to their cases personally as their delegates often had them, and 1 quoted a genuine case where their . k^iwhakahae r e (agent) took twenty shares 'for himself and gave all the others one share each, when his claim was not as good as many of the others. The personal or scln'sh element is much in evidence in the discussions of the Chamber lately, which reminds one of an old-time matter, when we were doing our best to induce the Government to give us a good 9ttta. for the nrbsecuting of the Parapara road, one of the members suggested that all the money be spent on the Pipi-riki-Raetihi end, where he practically had a monopoly. He was not supported in tliat idea, and the said member has not attended a meeting of the Chamber eince, only when a Minister of the Crown wts there. Tf lam wrong I will apologise. — I am, etc., S. H. MANSON.

[Our representative evidently credited to Mr Man son a statement' made by another member of the Chamber, who is a recognised authority on native matters. — Ed. W.H.j. _. '
