Fictitious Values Attributed to Speculators,

(P«r United Prees Association.) PA LI I ATI' A, June 1!

During a discussion at the County i o'uicil meeting on the question of Government valuations Cr Bolton said that land in thiri district was changing hands at such pricos that it was impossible for auy man to make a living. This was brought ahout by speculators who bought on paper, and as low as ten per cent of the purchase money was all that was paid, the result being that where a little cash was required the price of land was raised each time the land changed hands. These fictitious prices gave the valuer a basis to go upon, but at the same time were inflicting hardships on the legitimate farmer who worked his land. It was resolved that the Council einphtically protested against <he manner in which the valuations of county lands are- made in so fur that valuations aro made too frequently, and that a valuer be apjwinted who has a knowledge of tli«> district.
