The Methodist Conference discussed the piopo-,..i1s of the London Wesleyan Methodist Society re the extension to operalions ol the Methodist Missionary Society ol Australasia to India. Dr Brown moved the adoption of the recommendation of the New South Wales Conference that the mission to India be postponed for the present on the grounds that large mission work had still to be done in the Islands of the Pacific, and also extra exependiture, pointing out further that the current expenditure for the past three years exceeded the income by nearly .£2OOO. Dr Fitchett pointed out 1 hat the smallness of the population involved in the missions to the Pacific compared to the India question was not only were they spending money on a good cause, but to the best effect. They were told to do work at their doors. Measured by time, India was nearer than some of the Pacific Islands. He, moved an amendment providing that the Mission Board send one or more men to India to train for mission work and prepare for Australasian missions, it being left to the Mission Board on tho information collected to at oncf organise a permanent Australasian mission lo India, or maintain a preparatory mission till next general conference.
