TOURNAMENT FOR PUBLIC SCHOOL AND DEFENCE CADETS. The trophies for the above-mentioned function are now on view in the window of Mr W. Wild's establishment in the Avenue, and are creating a large amount of interest, especially so amongst the competitors, and the competitions to decide the winners of these handsome prizes is going to be very keen. The dirmb-bell drill by the boys from the Marist Bros.' School will be given with limelight effects, and we can assure our readers that this item alone will be well worth the price of admission. The tournament will take place in the Drill Hall next Thursday night, 25th inst., and tickets for admission, at Is for adults and 6d for children, can be purchased from any of the local school pupils. MAXIM SQUAD. The following members are requested to parade this evening at 7.30 and on Tuesday next, 23rd inst., for training for the forthcoming military tournament at Palmerston North on 9th November : — Sergt. Ross, Corpls. Coneybeer and Cox, Vols. Dobson, O'Brien, Sparks, Thorne, O'Brien. MacDonough, E. Gordon, and Laird. The drill will be under Staff Sergt.Major Peacock.
Captain Edwin wired at 10 p.m. today: — Strong winds to gale from between north-west and west and south, glass rise, tides high, sea heavy, rain probable, and weather colder.
