APPEAL COURT.
(Per United I'nms Association*. WELLINGTON, October 19. The Appeal Court gave judgment today on a motion for a new trial in the rase of Bruges (solicitor), Chribtchurch, who has been connected with a charge of tlicit in connection with trust funds. The grounds of the application were that the verdict was against the weight of evidence. The majority of the Court (.fudges Edwards, Cooper, and Chapman) held that the verdict vas against the weight of evidence, and a new trial was ordered on the grounds that accused had no guilty knowledge of theft by his clerk. The Chief Justice dissented, on the grounds that Bruges had an opportunity to see the books, and occasionally did see them ; that the moneys received were not investd; that accused had charge of the conveyancing branch in the office, and no land transfer document passed through his office without his signature.
