Mr Deakin's Speech Criticised.

SYDNEY, October 19. Mr. Reid, criticising Mr. Deakin'a speech, said he did not throw any light on the important question of the hour. Tne Premier had shelved Socialism, while he had performed a mo=,t brilliant balancing on the political tight-rope. With regard to the proposed land tax programme, the present Government was beneath serious notice. Mr. Watson states that Mr. Deakin's speech is like all his speeches, full of brightness and hopefulness, but the people would not find a large measure of relief in it. He could not find any programme outlined in it. and Mr. Reid's programme is even less inspiring than that of the present Government.
