WANGANUI AGRICULTURAL ASSOCIATION.
The fortnightly meeting of the above was held at the Association's rooms yesterday afternoon, there being present Messrs J. H. Nixon (Chairman), E. Perrott J. T. Sinclair, R. Russell, W. K. McLean, J. H. Burnett, G. Smith, J. B. Murray, T. H. James, J. J. Tafylor, A. Burnett, T. Higgie, J. Dempsey. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs A. Atkins and J. Bailey. RAILWAY SIDING,— Mr A. Burnett reported that he, together with Mr Russell and the secretary, waited on the Traffic Manager re the Sash and Door Factory's railway siding, and arrangements for special trains, and that he had undertaken to report favourably to headquarters. AGRICULTURAL SCHOOL.—Consideration of a dairy school was held over till the next meeting, to enable Mr Varney, who ie at present absent at Palmerston, to attend. PAYMENT FOR CATTLE YARDS.— Several members handed in reports re the canvassing for contributions for paying off the cost of the cattle yards, one member reporting that he had been promised .£IOO. LIFE MEMBER.— Mr James Peat was elected a life member.
STALLS. — The Farmers' Co-op, were granted a double stall, as per their application. AGRICULTURAL I^vPERIMENTS.— Mr John Sharpe wrote declining to accept the Association's offer to conduct the manuring experiments for which the Department cf Agriculture had granted a small sum. — It was decided to reply to Mr Sharpe regretting that he was unable to conduct the experiments. It was decided to approach Mr Baker with a view to his taking charge of the experiments. SELF DENIAL. — A letter was received from Captain Dickens, of the local Salvation Army, asking for a donation for self denial week. — Decided to reply that the Society's funds were not available for such purposes, and that most ot the members subscribed personally. NEW MEMBERS.— Messrs D. S. Snow, C. W. Gifford, A. McPherson, junr., S. E. Bead, A. J. Fountain, senr., and F. Beaven wore elected.
MOMOHAKI STATE FARM.— Mr Higfie brought up the matter of the State arm, saying that the manager would be pleased to see as many members as possible visit the farm. — The matter was discussed, and it was decided to keep it in view, and that a visit be made later on in the ys*.r. A number of names were handed in of these who were willing to go, at a date to be fixed.
MEFTINGS.— It was decided to hold nisjht meetings on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month, at 7.30 o'clock, and afternoon meetings at 3 o'clock on the Wednesdays of every alternative week to the Tuesday meetings. DOG SHELTER.— The dog stewards and Mr Sinclair were appointed to go into the matter of permanent shelter for the doge.
