WOOLSTON TANNERY DESTROYED.

CHRISTCHURCH, December 1.

To-night the Woolston Tannery, owned by Bowron Bros., was burned. Of all tne buildings, which covered six acres, the only portion not absolutely gutted was the currier's shed, which was itself badly damaged. A' 'great stock of* leather and hides, and most of 1 the machinery, werf> destroyed. Bowron. Bros, state that the insurances, which are not yet ascertainahfe, will certainly not' cover the losses. At about 1.30 o'clock this morning an eleven-roomed house in Carlyle Stijjet, Sydeuham, occupied by Mr G. E. Christensen, and owned by Mrs Pope, was destroyed by fire. The. house was used as a boarding-house, and .there were three -or four boarders in it at the time. Nothing 1 was saved, and several of the occupants had to escape by the windows.
