SECOND DAY.

Great as was the interest yesterday, wo venture to say that the attractions this afternoon were almost double by reason of the addition of the school competitions, which were laid out and judged this niornmg, and wove inspected liy a great number of children, who took advantage of the half holiday given them for the purpose of attending the Show. The entries .rom the schools were splendid. Some of die vegetables from the Mosstown School, especially the potatoes, would hold their own in the adult class, and the sewing from the same school carried off all the prizes, •md that the judges had a hard task to pick the winner may be judged by the iact that the non-successful ones, some rive or six, wore each awarded highly jommended certificates. The button holes were many aud were be mtifully arranged, but the jtidgo considered that they -were not suitable for tho purpose ; there was a line variety of flowers in the bouquet and basket classes, notable among the latLer being some very fine pansies from tho St. John's School.

Mr YV. E. Hogg had a splendid show of iced cakes, which he presented to the .Show conunitte for competition. The ornamental work was most artistic, aud showed great skill in using the icing, and i proper device for the season, a tennis cake, was very prettily done.

Hie School Challenge Banner was v/on by the Mosstotvn School, which secured 12£ points more than the St. John's School, which came second. The prize list for the Public Schools Competitions as as follows: — Judges: — Mrs Hope Giboons and Mr D
