A Record Majority Anticipated.

HOKITIKA, November 27.

Since the announcement of the position re the Premier for the Westland seat, there has been spontane6Us action throughout the district to secure his re-election by an overwhelming majority. Committees are being formed at all centres. At Ross, strong comment was passed on the action of outsiders in forcing a candidate on the district. Everywhere much enthusiasm ia being shown, - and determination is announced to secure a record majority. Mr Seddon has been notified, that there is no necessity for him to visit the electorate until after the ©lection, as it is felt his visits are of more value at tlie present juncture to other parts of the colony. A notable feature of the organisation is the number of ladies' committees being set up' in all parts of the district to work for a handsome majority for Mr Seddon.

Mr William Miller McEenzie, an expressman and local celebrity, has been nominated by two ladies for the Oamaru seat as an Oppositionist candidate. He is not addressing the electors, but has issued a pamphlet, which is a most "remarkable document. His candidature is not taken seriously, and can make no difference to the fight between Messrs Duncan and Mitchell.

PALMERSTON N., November 27. At a special general meeting of the Farmers' Union on Saturday afternoon, Mr F. Pirani, the Opposition candidate for Palmerston North, , was selected as the Farmers' Union candidate for Palmerston, with only one dissentient. CHRISTCHURCH, November 27. TIMARU, November 25. Mr James Allen, the member for Bruce, addressed a well-attended meeting of Geraldine electors at Temuka last night. He spoke for about two hours in explanation t of the aims of the Opposition, and in de- ' nunciation of tlie actions, of the Government fn different respects. He claimed that the Government- have been toe- long" in office, and that/ the political machine had been so badly broken and patched that it is now only, fit to be. relegated to the scrap heap.
