Earthquakes*

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, — We live in a region subject to earthquakes, a 8 we all know, and we should consider thiß in erecting our buildings. In fact, the Borough Inspector should see that no heavy stone, brickwork, or cement mouldings or projections which might be liable to fall on the footpaths in the event of a severe shake are allowed. Architectural beauty can be got without these. It is really a matter to be considered in our Borough by-laws, and a most important matter, too, when the danger to passers-by is considered, for earthquakes come without warnjng, "like a thief in the night." — I am, etc., CITIZEN.
