WANGANUI SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The" monthly meeting of the above was held last, night at the District High School. Present — Messrs W. B«ice (chairman), A. Thompson, E. Purser, T. B. Williams, G. Spriggens, J. E. Johns, Revs. R. M. Ryburn and A. Dewdsey. Mr J. G. Browne wrote apologising for his absence, owing to a bereavement in the family. A vote of ■• sympathy was unanimously passed to Mr Browne.

CORRESPONDENCE.— The Education Board wrote .confirming the appointment of Miss Siddels as. assistant at the District High School, and also stating that a grant had been given for an office at that ■chool for the headmaster.

TREES.— The Borough Council wrote, asking the Committee to cut down and remove the trees in Cameron Terrace. — Matter left in the hands of the Grounds Committee to attend to.

REPAIRS, &c— The matter of repairing the basins at the District High School was also left in the hands of the Grounds Committee, as was also the procuring of shelving- for the reception of books kindly given to the school by Mr Empson.

VISITING

COMMITTEE.— The Visit-

ing Committee, Messrs Purser and Spriggens, xeported that the schools, on the whole, were in a good condition, but that two rooms at the Queen's Park School badly needed painting. — Decided to ask the Education Board to paint the rooms mentioned. — The Committee also reported

that it had been decided to fence in a , piece of ground at the bottom of the ground at the District High School, to keep the horses off the cricket pitch .

GRAVEL. — It was decided to ask the

Board to repair the road at the Queen's Park School, which was damaged during the repairs, and also to ask for the twenty loads of gravel which Mr Bridge promised the Committee, ten of

which would be laid on the Queen's Park grounds and the other ten at the District High School. ' ENTERTAINMENT PROFITS. — The total profits of the Queen's Park School concert amounted to <£25, half of which goes to the formation of swimming classes, and .£lO of the remainder will be spent on improving the grounds, and £5 will be spent on the improvement of the District High School grounds, being portion of the proceeds of their late concert.
