GENERAL SYNOD OF ANGLICAN CHURCH.
(Per. United Press HAsociatiom.) . : AUCKLAND, January 28. The Anglican General Synod opened today. A special- service "was held, in the Gathedfal in the morning, and in the afternoon the acting-Primate* '(the Bishop, of. Dunejdin) gaye the opening address. Re^ ferring to the question of altering the fundamental provisions of the Church constitution, he expressed .doubt as to whether it was necessary to apply to:. the legislature, but if* thought better in order to avoid r all possible danger to make such application, they must.be careful, to guard against seeming to derive' their authority from the legislature, and mere!/ request civil', power /to say no amendment of fundamentals wduld bo held" to affect the rights of property or discipline. Bishop Neville also dealt at length with missionary ' questions, the reunion of Christendom, the recent extension of the boundaries of. the ecclesiastical province, and the -coming Lambeth Conference, concluding with a 1 stirring appeal to the Church to" go forward* . The election of .Primate was fixed., for Monday. ,', .
