A BYE-LAW CASE WITHDRAWN.
At the. Police Court yesterday Sergeant Norwood' applied for permission to withdraw au information charging' A. Higgle with having driven over the Town Bridge at a pace faster than a walk. ' In answer to the Magistrate (Mr C. t. Kettle), the sergeant stated that he had been instructed by his superior officer to apply to the Court to allow tho information to be withdrawn. The police, he said, acted in those cases under the aiithority o,i I the borough aaxtlioritics, and it was iv ' compliance with a letter from these authorities that the request, was made # t The Magistrate said ho must be satisfied ps to the .reason for withdrawal, and asked the sergeant to produce the letter. Sergeant Norwood then handed the letter to Mr Kettle, who read it as follows: —"Inspector of Police, Waiigamti:— Dear i Sir, — Re charge laid against- Mr^A. Hig1 cue for driving over the bridge at a. pace faster than a walk, I am instructed by the Mayor to say that he would bo much obliged if you would withdraw the charge.
