The Inquiry.
(Per United Press Association.) ' AUCKLAND, Dcfeember 7. At, the Elingainite inquiry, James Coonan, boatswain, stated that he came on | deck on hearing the 'order "All hands on deck." N A' little later the bilge struck the rocks', and there was a crash. He was positive the engines were sfbpped. when she struck! Witness helped to lower No. 6 boat. Some tins of biscuits (two at lefist were" handed into ( the oboat. .- Water washed over -the .deck of th,e. ptoamer and into .the bo,it,,and she swamped. ( No. 2 boat. was v ,then launched, and' picked up those' thrown' into 'the water, l^t was witness's duty to supervise the filling of the breakers. He filled-, them on the trip going to Sydney, all boats being supplied. He did not see the raft breakers filled! but tho men told him that they "had been - attended *t6. "- The inquiry then- adjourned.
