A FIREWORKS CASE.

The Wellington City Council Fail.

(Per United Press Association.)

WELLINGTON, December 17.

A case arising out of the visit of the 'Duke and Duchess' of Cornwall to Wellington was heard before Mr Justice ! Edwards and a jury "of four this morn- | ing, when Blackburn and Smith, of Christchurch, sued the Mayor of Wellington and Councillor Luke, representing the Citizens* Committee, for £300, the cost of fireworks provided by plaintiffs for the pyrotechnic display given tin honour of the Royal visitors.'

For the plaintiffs, it was held "that the display had been in accordance with the specifications. That it had not been successful was owing to the hulk from which it was given being moored too far out in ,the harbour. Plaintiffs were 'not concerned about the site afforded, as they were not consulted about the ■position in "which the hulk should be placed.

The defence to the action was that the display had been a poor one, and that the'plaintiffs had not brought such expert knowledge, judgment, " and" experience to bear upon their work, as expected.

The jury gave a verdict for plaintiffs for .£2OO, with costs.
