EARTHQUAKES AT TONGA.

- (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, December 17.

The- Tongan ' correspondent of the Herald states : — We have had plenty of earthquake shocks, and_jalthorigh nothing to be composed with the seismic disturbances in New Zealand, yet two shocks on November 12, at 11 a.m. and 2.30 p.m., were sufficiently .powerful and alarming to cause the natives to rush yelling from their houses, which they were afraid were about to collapse. Beyond a few articles of crockery and glassware which came to grief in some of the stores and European houses, no damage was done. Another very severe, shock occurred on Tuesday morning last (December 3) at 2 a.m., 'which aroused most of the people."
