WRECK OF THE ROYAL TAR.

The Mate Drowned.

' (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, November 26. ' The barque Royal Tar was wrecked at Sheer Rock, Tin Tin, last night. The mate was drowned, and. the vessel sunk. No particulars are yet to hand.

AUCKLAND, November 26.* ' The Royal Tar struck Shearer Rock 2 this morning. The steamer Ngunguru,' while passing.^saw 'the vessel sending up signal rockets, and proceeded to, render assistance. Before she got alongside the Royal Tar slipped 'off the rock and sank in deep water.

The steamer found the captain and crew of the barque in two boats.

Captain Morrison stated that Hunt, the mate, was drowned.

The captain's wife and child were landed on Tiritiri, AUCKLAND, November 26.

Captain Morrison and the crew, of the Royal Tar -were brought to -Auckland by the tug Admiral.

The name of the mate drowned was Kirby, single, a native of Lancashire. He joined the vessel at Newcastle.
