BUSINESS NOTES.

The p.B. Aotea left here on Friday morning with the judges and visitors to the A. and P. Show, and returned to town at 6 o'clock on Saturday afternoon, after a very pleasant time. The Caves and tho Manganui-o-te-ao were, visited, the weathir being perfect. The -vesitors were -beyond all doubt given a real treat. A presentation was made to Captiin (Jack) Allan on the way down, Mr Alfred Burnett, vice-President of the A. and P. Show, in doing so spoke in glowing terms of the steamer and the way in which she was handled in every department.

In connection with the London Street fire, lost evening, the insurance on the building was .£l6O, in -the Northern. The furniture and effects, totally destroyed, were uninsured. The case" of Mr Hogg and his family (three children) is a particularly hard one, as not only is all the furniture lost, but all their personal effects and belongings were destroyed.

Sitting in civil jurisdiction at the Magistrate's Court to-day, Mr C. C. Kettle, S.M., gave judgment for plaintiffs in the following undefended cases : — Wanganui Supply and Agency Company (Mr Marshall) v. Jas. O'Brien, £1 9s 10d; costs ss; same v. W. Rowe. £% lls Id, costs 11b; Jas. Laird anS Sons (Mr Gordon) v. F. W. Beechey, £3 5s -6d, costs 10s; A. Hatrick and.Co. (Mr Marshall) v. A. Webby, ' £29 Is, costs £3 16s; A. E. T. Nixon (Mr Trcadwell) v. J. W. Durie, .£lO 13s. costs 15s. In the judgment summons cases, M. Hogan and Co. (Mr Treadwell) v. Thos. Murray, claim £2 7s-3d : ordered that the amount, less 10s, to be paid within 14 days, in default seven days' imprisonment; and in the cose of J. H. Day (Mr Marshall) v. Henare W&itere, debtor was ordered to pay the amount .in two instalments at the tmd of January and February respectively.
