OUR VOLUNTEERS.

The Battalion Camp on th

" Ree"

The Volunteer camp on the Recreation Ground was visited yesterday by a large number of people. The Volunteers, who were 'joined by the Castlecliff Rifles, attended church parade at Christ Church in the morning, when the Eev. .T. B. Maclean preached a eermon appropriate to the occasion. In the afternoon the volunteers entertained, 1 their lady friends at afternoon tea. The Garrison Band also played a number, of beautiful selections. -which were greatiy appreciated, particularly the "Kyrie" and the "Gloria." A collection waa taken np on behalf of the Band funds and realised £4. Colonel Watt's special prize for the neatest tent in the battalion was won by No. 1 section Wanganui Rifles. , The winning tent was a pattern one in every respect, and reflected every credit on its inmates — viz., Vols. Dykes, Lockhart, Meredith, Purves, Scally, Robertshaw, and D. Hogan. Lieut. McFarlane (Wanganui Rifles) has offered a prize for a' tent-pitching contest between members of his company in camp, and, no doubt, his example will be followed by officers of other companies. The commissariat arrangements leave nothing to be desired : a plentiful supply of well-cooked rations being served out to the various messes; and by order of Col. Watt afternoon tea -was prepared for all lady visitors to camp yesterday.
