UNITED v. BRITANNIA.

(St. John's Hill.) Each team could only muster eight men, the "send-off" of tho second Contingent accounting for several absentees. The United, with four wicketa down for 63, resumed batting with Luxford (10) and Walker (7), Delves and Taylor bowling. Runs came slowly but surely, each batsman playing confidently. Eighty went up before K. H. Cavo relieved Delves, and soon after the ceutury appeared. Delves again resumed bowlinp, and with the score at 111, Taylor beat Walker. 111—5—27. Thepart- - nership realised 73 runs. Hanison joined his skipper, and soon made a nice forward stroke off Taylor to tho fence. In the same over he got a three off tho same bowler, and was then rather easily run out. Goldsbury was tho last man, but was immediately caught in tho slips, and the innings closed for 128. Luxford carried his bat for a splendidly played ' 45. Taylor was the most consistent with the ball. In a minority of 131, Britannia started • their second innings with Delves and Btilloek, Watty and Harrison bowling. Watty sent down a ma'den, but Delves got Harrison's first ball to tho fence. • Each batsman scored a single off the same bowler, but in Watty's next over ho disarranged Delves' wickets, letting in Pownall. The new-comer pulled Harrison's first ball to the leg boundary, and then got a single, but tho bowler had his revenge by catching Bullock next ball. 6—2—20. K. H. Cave joined Pownall, and a good partnership resulted. Tlie score had reached 37 when Pownall inisß-hit Walker (who had relieved Harrison) and M'Lean (sub.) took tho catch. Taylor, Armstrong, and A. O. Cave were soon disposed of, and sir wickets were down for 56. J. M'Loan, with tho assistance of his skipper, succeeded in adding 13 for the last wioket, when K. H. Cave made a miss-hit, and Harrison took the catch. The innings thus closed for 69, leaving the Unitodß winners by 62 runs. The fielding was very patchy— some very bad and some fair.
